The popular dance class starts again at the Festivity Hall of Caisa on September 21. The focus in this class is on partner dancing so we will be working a lot on communication with the partner as well as rhythms and musicality.

We want to make sure to give all of our students a solid foundation of the basics of the dance. The class starts from the beginnings. Returning students, on the other hand, will have a chance to work on more variations, foot work, and style.

Camel Walking, fish tail, bird movements, pony dance, boogie woogie … all of which are derived from the traditional jazz dance movements. Traditional jazz dance was a form of popular dance in the United States during the 1920-50. Its basis are later developed into dances such as hip hop, break dance, and many other existing street dance forms. Nevertheless, traditional jazz dance essentially highlights the pleasure of rhythms and dancing!

The course focuses primarily on providing students with the joyful traditional (authentic) jazz dance basics which will allow them explore and exercise their own creativity. No prior dance background is required. This class is for everyone to find a suitable and convenient way to move around. It is most suitable for those who are looking into exploring the world of traditional jazz dance.

Intermediate Level

The intermediate level class from Suvilahti has now moved to Kääntöpaikka! Learn traditional styles of solo jazz, particularly with a 1930’s-40’s flavour, and come to dance to uplifting swing, jazz and rhythm ‘n blues. In accordance with the most important elements of jazz, we will discover rhythmical movement as well as relaxation, happiness, humor ja personal self-expression!
